ibis Styles London Southwark – near Borough Market

We slept really well, and the room was very clean. The bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked well, and having a coffee machine plus USB sockets by the bed was handy. The location made it easy to get around without feeling too busy, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The suite’s living room lighting was frustrating. There are two lamps, but they only come on with all the other lights, so it’s either full brightness or completely dark. Wash cloths would’ve been nice in the bathroom, though I don’t think hotels in this country usually provide them, so bring your own.

There’s a lot to like here, from the spotless rooms and comfortable bed to the kind, helpful reception staff. The room had the basics, including a decent sized wardrobe, a safe, and a hairdryer. The air cooling was especially welcome with 35 degrees outside. Breakfast is free and continental. Southbank, Tate modern, borough market, and a few tube lines are nearby, making it a great base. I’ll book again next time I’m in London.

The clean, stylish rooms and wide choice at the continental breakfast keep me coming back. Staff are approachable and friendly any time of day, and the location is great for sightseeing. I’m already looking forward to my next business trip and another stay at the Ibis Styles Southwark.

This was around my third or fourth visit, and I’ve been happy with the hotel and its service each time. On this stay, I was first given a room in a different, quiet part of the hotel rather than an upper floor. I asked to move because I wanted to be able to see outside easily, and reception understood right away and helped. The whole place stays quiet at night, with no noise from lifts or people walking past the door. You might only know you have neighbors when you see them at breakfast. The room was comfortable and well maintained, and the mattress was just right, supportive but soft. Housekeeping were lovely and did excellent work. Breakfast has plenty of sweet and savory choices, including gluten-free and vegan options. You can get oat milk from the coffee machine for a latte or hot chocolate. I also like the theatre and musical inspiration in the decor, from reception and the lifts to the rooms and breakfast area. The details are lovely, especially the ropes and hat lamps in the breakfast area, and the furniture is high quality and comfortable. The location is ideal on the south bank of the Thames. London Bridge underground station is about a 10 minute walk away, with the Jubilee and Northern lines, and there are trains from the nearby London Bridge train station to places around and outside London. Borough Market is only five minutes away, with plenty of restaurants and bars open in the evening. It’s a lovely area to explore after dinner, with a walk beside the river Thames, Shakespeare Globe Theatre, Southbank Centre, the Golden Hinde (an Elizabethan galleon), the Anchor, the George Inn, and some amazing architecture nearby. There aren’t many supermarkets around, and bus options are limited compared with a more central location. I like looking around the city and discovering neighborhoods by bus when I’m going from A to B, but the Tube works very well. I’d recommend it for a local-feeling London stay away from the main tourist areas, with a good night’s sleep, comfortable facilities, and easy Underground access. I’ll be back soon.
