The staff were all friendly, and Jonathan, the manager, stood out at breakfast. He was so welcoming, and we saw him chatting and interacting brilliantly with all sorts of guests. That made breakfast a thoroughly enjoyable part of the morning. The breakfast itself was good and reasonably priced, unlike the high prices many hotels seem to charge. We were out for the night, and the Royal Scott was ideally placed, about 10 minutes from the venue. The price was excellent since all we needed was a bed. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. It was warm during the May heatwave, but there was a fan that kept us cool overnight. For a budget stay in Kings X, why go anywhere else?
The rooms are roomy, not little boxes, and the hotel has good facilities, including a 24-hour bar and pizza. Breakfast is decent and a great price. It’s not central, but the mainline stations and tube are about a 15-minute walk away. I’ve never been much of a Travelodge fan, but this one’s excellent and I’d happily stay again on a future London trip.
The staff have been friendly, helpful, and professional on both of my work-related stays over the past year. The rest of the hotel, though, falls short of what I’d expect for the price. The building feels tired and dated outside reception, and clearly needs investment and modernisation. The basic rooms are worn, not especially comfortable or welcoming, and don’t make for a relaxing longer stay. The food is significantly overpriced for its quality and feels like convenience catering, with little to make it memorable or good value. I’d suggest looking elsewhere if you have the option.
The hotel bar was decent, and we enjoyed a drink there. The staff were chatty and friendly, though we didn’t eat at the hotel. It’s reasonably priced for London, and I’ve stayed here before. The rooms are basic but a good size. The bathroom is small and the shower could be better, though it was adequate, and the towels were a decent size. You can leave your luggage, but it’s best to take it down early. I brought ours down at 8am before our 10.30am checkout. Checkout is available until 12pm.
Getting here from Kings Cross/St Pancras is easy, and I’d return. But I’m not sure I’d pay extra again for early check-in and late checkout. The early check-in room wasn’t ready, and later staff knocked to ask if we’d paid for late checkout, even though a housekeeper had seen us in the corridor and said they knew we were in room X with late checkout. It’s frustrating to pay for the extra time and then not get the full benefit or peace to use it. We also tried to order food at 1.30pm on a Saturday. The lift said the snack menu was available 24 hours and the dinner menu started at 5pm, so we sat down and picked what we assumed were light bites. After queuing at the bar, we were told they weren’t serving food. It would’ve helped to know that at check-in.
