The room was a nightmare. It’s in a basement reached by a narrow, steep staircase, which we hadn’t been told about. The wooden floor was swollen and damaged by damp, and there was mould everywhere. The bathroom has no window and is about the size of a phone box. For the whole week we got two towels and one roll of toilet paper that had already been used. The hairdryer couldn’t be used, and pigeons outside the window were a nuisance.
The location was great, but the room was awful. It was advertised as a “luxury apartment” and turned out to be a tiny room with furniture falling apart. Pigeons and their mess were all over the stairs outside the window, and it looked as if nobody had cleaned there in decades. The small fridge was packed with ice and leaking. We had to use our shower mat to mop up the water and told them, but they did nothing about the fridge or replace the mat. The freezer was leaking too. To reach the mini-microwave, you had to sit on the bed. There was just one lamp, and it had neither a shade nor a bulb.
We booked this through expedia, and it ruined our Christmas holiday. The listing and photos were totally misleading, and the way expedia operates was unprofessional. The owner had no email, WhatsApp or viber, only a UK phone number, so we couldn’t get in touch before we arrived. Once there, we found the apartment wasn’t suitable for four people, a family with children aged 10 and 13. The sofa was filthy and broken, with no mattress, and the kids couldn’t sleep on it. For six nights, they’d left us just four towels and one roll of toilet paper. The place was dirty and noisy, and the whole building smelled of hashish. When we finally reached the owner, he was rude and refused to sort anything out. We’d spent all that money and still couldn’t sleep, which was unacceptable. He blamed expedia, and when we tried to contact them, we got an AI robot. Never again with expedia. We’ll check the comments first next time.
The apartment was very good, with everything in it.
The location works well, near parks, supermarkets and restaurants. The living room is roomy, though the bedrooms are very small. There aren’t many kitchen supplies either, no bottle opener, broom or ice chest, among other things, so the place is quite basic. Rest was difficult. The walls are so thin you can hear everything, and pigeons get in through the roof and make noise in the mornings. If you want a good spot, it’s acceptable, but I wouldn’t really recommend it if you’re looking for quiet.
