The breakfast had a very good choice. I had pancakes with Greek yoghurt and fruit, and my husband chose a full English. It was all very good, and the lovely ladies serving us made it even nicer. We stayed one night in a large, spotlessly clean room. Our twin beds were very comfortable, and we loved the beautiful old building. We look forward to staying again.

The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were a 10/10, the coffee was lovely and freshly made, and there was plenty of it. Breakfast had a nice variety, and they made my husband fried bread. I would have preferred a choice of bacon, as we don’t like smoked bacon. We had a very nice, large front room, number 20, with a settee and a large TV with a decent picture. The sheets were crisp, and the fluffy white bath sheets and hand towels were nice. Staff were friendly, the wine selection was good and served properly. We’d stay again.

The rooms were really nice and very clean, and the food and drink were very good. There’s a nice area to sit and have a drink too. This was a lovely little find, with friendly, helpful staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Give it a try if you’re up this way.

We arrived at the pub and restaurant at 6 pm on Saturday, after seeing the menu and thinking it looked just right for us. Nearly every table was reserved. We sat down at one, but the waitress told us it was reserved too and shooed us away, then put a reserved sign on it. The bar was full but very quiet, and the whole thing left us feeling rather embarrassed. At least we walked straight into the Cock and Bell down the road and probably spent a lot less. That still doesn’t make up for how uncomfortable your place made us feel.

Green King runs the hotel well. The staff are kind and considerate, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. But they just can’t get the evening meals right. On our first night, I ordered the beef bourguignon and was thoroughly disappointed with both its quality and quantity. At £20.95, plus £2.25 for an extra portion of potato, it was a poor meal. I wouldn’t recommend it.
