The house feels spacious and welcoming, and the garden is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the quiet. Eldon Country Hotel has a nice mix of modern touches and old-world character, though some parts are looking ready for a refresh. Little details could use more attention, and the bathroom water pressure is very poor. With some updates and care, it could be a much better countryside stay.

I wouldn't stay again, which is a shame because the place has potential and the location is perfect. The rooms were OK, but guests are expected to strip the beds and leave the bedding and towels in piles downstairs, as well as clean the fridge and cooker. There were lots of cobwebs, and the grease dripping from the extractor was disgusting. You're told to raise any problems with the owner, but previous reviews made us worry about getting the £100 deposit back if we did.
