The Snooty Fox

The Harbour Moon Looe was a poor experience, and this review concerns another property run by the same lady. I doubt the customer service would be any different there. On arrival, we were immediately warned that forgetting the key meant being locked out until morning, with nobody available to help. Staff then apologized for damp after flooding and said it was only in the corridor. The room was damp too, though we were told it wasn't and was ready, and that we could make it “smell better” if we wanted. I asked for a refund. They offered a free drink or a move three miles away, which didn't work for us because we wanted to stay in Looe. The landlady threatened to call the police and said she'd watch us on CCTV while calling my mobile to make sure we left. Her son was described as the “manager” but apparently couldn't make decisions. Avoid this property at all costs.

We expected a pub with food, but this is a motel and there's no food available on site. Looe, about 10 minutes away, is the nearest place for food or drinks. There's no fridge or cooking equipment either, so it really is just a room. Our room was cleaned daily, with the sheets and towels changed, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. We needed an extension lead for medical equipment because there aren't many sockets, and the owner came straight over to sort it out. It's okay for what it is, but we were a little disappointed because we'd wrongly assumed the pub was on site and open to guests.

It's quiet and comfortable, and you know what you're getting: no meals, though Looe isn't too far away. Management has some strange rules, and the manager could improve their customer service. Some guests might feel insulted.

It's handy for visiting family, but I wouldn't return. The owner was very rude and the service unfriendly. Our rooms were clean, though the electrics didn't work properly, and the ground-floor window wouldn't open as an escape route. For room only, it was overpriced compared with nearby places. The mattresses in both rooms were worn out, and after two nights I went home with a bad back and sore shoulders. A shame.
