Quorn Country Hotel

The twin room was spacious and warm, with a great powerful shower. The new manager welcomed my son and me, showed us the gym and talked about the building's history. In the morning, the manager was super friendly and took time to connect with my son, who has special needs, making sure his breakfast was right. We'll be back. Leicester TeamSport go karting is easy to get to, and there are good places to eat just a 3 minute walk away. I recommend the White Horse, especially for Wednesday pie night. Their beef and Guinness pie was the best I've ever had.

For a quick overnight work trip, the stay was okay, and I booked through our travel company. I'd put it closer to a 3 star hotel, which might help set expectations. The breakfast room was freezing, so I ate and hurried back to my room for another cup of tea. The menu mentioned pancakes, waffles and pastries alongside the cooked breakfast, but none were available. The continental choice was basically cereal or toast, with no real fresh options. The berries came in a very thick, jelly like syrup.

The receptionists I met were brilliant, professional and friendly, and the grounds outside are really pretty. The hotel itself looks elegant and beautiful, but the rooms, while spotless, feel tired and need updating. Some older touches might seem charming at first, though that could wear off quickly. The door has an old fashioned lock that takes a bit of jiggling to open.

Quorn is a clean, typical English village, with plenty of pubs and places to eat, plus a nearby park where our dogs could run. We were visiting family and then Leicester Speedway at Beaumont Park. The hotel is past its best, but its central location suited what we needed and we'd stay again. It was reasonably priced at £75 for the two of us, and our ground floor room was a decent size. We slept well and the dogs settled straight away. Staff were friendly enough. Breakfast choices were limited, with no English breakfast, and the car park had no lights when we returned. That's awkward for someone with a knee replacement who wears varifocals.
