The Masons Arms

We stopped for coffee and a light lunch on 3rd October. The person who served us at the table was friendly and helpful, and the visit itself was fine. But I had a full coffee loyalty card, and the staff member handling the bill insisted it could only be honoured next time. I found her manner discourteous, almost rude, over one coffee. It would put me off coming back.

We’ve always enjoyed the Masons arms, but today our group of eight was turned away from coffee and food. We were told they would only serve roast dinners and were too busy to make coffee, despite many empty tables and three staff behind the bar. The younger woman was lovely, but the older one was rude and made it clear she didn’t want to serve us. We won’t return. If they didn’t want our custom that day, they won’t have it the rest of the year.

Lunch was okay, and the staff were friendly. The prices seemed fairly good too. The interior was fine, just not especially inspiring, and I wouldn’t pick it for a first date.

We left without eating after about ten minutes. My friend and I had sat out front in the sunshine, and when I went inside to ask for menus, I politely checked whether eating outside was allowed. The staff member answered, “YESSS, but You Have To Pay For Your Food First!!” It felt unnecessarily rude, and I immediately felt judged and unwelcome. The menu also looked overpriced to us. Two customers inside watched and looked down at us, then stared and scowled as we walked away. The staff and customers were as bad as each other. I’ll never come back.
