We had generous portions of Steak & Ale pies with hot, fresh chips, lovely peas and condiments. The pies were hearty, full of succulent beef in a rich, tasty ale sauce, and topped with perfect puff pastry. They arrived quickly, looked impressive and tasted delicious. Thanks to Chef Graham for them. The table area was clean, neat and spacious, and the sturdy cutlery was appreciated. We had two crisp cold drinks and could choose where to sit. Cooper was an excellent barman, warm and welcoming, and kept service moving with real style. He also let everyone know about the menu Specials. The prices were great, and there was a good choice of beers and lagers. The furniture is brand new, with nice bar stools and cosy tartan chairs. The walls have prints of Trams in Lowestoft, and there's antique lighting over the bar. We liked the new sports room and the extremely clean bathrooms. Dogs are welcome too, and we enjoyed meeting the friendly big brown-eyed dog behind the bar. The Tramway Hotel & Bar is distinctive, with lots of original Victorian features. The floor tiles in the rear entrance hallway are beautiful, like ones in the Victorian-era town hall at the top of High Street, which is currently being restored. We were also interested to learn that it has the historic, coveted address of 'No.1 London Rd', on a route used since Roman times that leads down to Lowestoft's old port district. We can't wait to come back and try more of the menu, including dessert. Thanks so much, Graham and Cooper, for the warm hospitality and those unforgettable homemade pies.

We've been here a few times over the last couple of years, mainly for pool or darts, and service has been good. It's also an easy walk from home, so my rating reflects those earlier visits. We came today because they advertised Sky Sports and TNT Sports and wanted to watch the FA Cup semi final. Things were good for the first 90 minutes, and we were already talking about coming back for more matches instead of driving across town to another pub. But with eight minutes of added time still to play, the landlord started a game of pool right in front of us and spoiled the finish. He could have waited those eight minutes. We probably won't come back to watch football.

There were more than ten of us in for a beer. The bar lady was great, but after the landlord served us, his attitude was so bad that we all wanted to leave. You only get one first impression. Of the 11 pubs we visited that day, this was the worst. That's saying something.

I almost don't want to write this review, because once I do, I might never get a table there again! We found the place through a flyer at the post office. We've lived here just over two years and hadn't known about it, so I suggested giving it a try, thinking we could simply not return if it was terrible. Our first meal was amazing, with home-cooked food, plenty of choice and homemade desserts. We went back a few days later and it was still superb, then returned for the Valentines special menu. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Our first visit was about three weeks ago, and we've already been three times. Tonight will be our fourth. As a vegetarian, I'm glad there are so many choices. I've run a top restaurant and I'm a very good cook, so I know a little about food. What a find. Diana and John.

The landlord is awful and doesn't deserve any custom. The rooms are basic and dirty, and the pub is always shut. Stay away. There are plenty of nice, friendly, clean places nearby. Don't waste your money here. 0/10.
