Angel and Blue Pig

We managed to get a table at the last minute for Easter Sunday lunch, which was a relief when so many places were booked all day. The roast was excellent, with three meats, lovely crackling, and perfectly cooked potatoes, carrots, roast parsnips, and green vegetables. We just had room for a chocolate dome dessert. There’s a separate restaurant as well as seating in the bar, and the restaurant has a nice, characterful atmosphere. It was clean, and the staff were welcoming and polite. Dogs are welcome, there’s overnight accommodation, and a sunny patio outside.

The hotel is in an excellent spot, convenient for most things, and I’d recommend it and stay again. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and check-in came with a very warm welcome. Breakfast was good, with a friendly waitress talking us through a decent range of options. The Wi-Fi registration was a pain, though. It asks for your date of birth, and picking a year means scrolling back month by month. For someone born in the 60's, that’s a lot of scrolling.

We first came here for lunch at the pub and liked it enough to book dinner for acoustic night. The lamb rump and mini lamb pie were delicious, and sitting beside the folk music gathering was lovely. Service was very slow because there weren’t enough staff for the number of customers. When staff did get to us, though, they were welcoming and very friendly.

The customer care was above and beyond, and the staff were incredible. We had a good break, and the food was great. A minor issue came up, but it was handled professionally. There was a noisy room above us, though it wouldn't put us off coming back. Parking is available, but it’s first come, first served.
