Macclesfield Lodge

I haven't stayed here and wouldn't. It looks like an overpriced hostel rather than a hotel for select clientele. Sleep tight, and watch out for bed bugs.

There's plenty to do right nearby, with bars, markets and attractions just steps away, and the central location is fantastic. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom needed a thorough clean and a fresh coat of paint, and the bath mat seemed unhygienic and should be replaced. The walls were thin too, so we could clearly hear other guests coming back late, which affected our sleep. Great location if you want to be in the middle of things, but better cleaning and soundproofing would improve the stay.

What an unbelievable dump. It's damp, cold, dangerous and falling apart. We all got bitten by something, no idea what, and left in the middle of the night to sleep in the car because it was so bad. I wouldn't house my dogs there. How is this place allowed to operate, and shame on booking.com for promoting it.

The location was gorgeous, and the staff member serving me was incredible, friendly and accommodating, easily one of the best hotel staff I've met. Those were the only good parts of my visit. I hated almost every minute and won't go back unless they make drastic changes. There were exposed wires in one bathroom. The kitchen looked and smelled disgusting, and the fridge water dispenser gave out thick red sludge. I didn't dare drink from the sink tap, so I'm grateful the staff member gave me bottled water. For a double room I got one thin, large towel. The mattress was incredibly uncomfortable, and there was no fan or AC in the bedroom, so I was sweating like crazy at night. It was hard to find the building because there was hardly any signage, and the shower mat in one bathroom smelled like animal pee. It was worse than university student accommodation, which says a lot given how lazy my friends were about looking after their place. I really don't recommend it. Even with a discount code, I paid about £45, ridiculous for what I got.
