Holdfast Cottage Hotel

This hotel had a lovely slice of old-world charm, and we’ll definitely go again. The owner gave us a warm welcome, along with her faithful companion Wilma. It was so quiet and peaceful after we’d escaped from a well-advertised local Inn where our room was above the kitchen extractor fan. Everything there worked by plastic.

Breakfast was top notch, and the room was very comfortable and clean. The owners made us feel at home, chatting with us and showing a genuine interest in what we were doing. Holdfast Cottage is welcoming and excellent value. I’ve stayed again since, and plan to keep coming back.

Mark, the manager, was lovely. We ended up chatting for quite a while about our shared love of motor racing. The place felt homely and comfortable, and the beds were especially comfortable. Breakfast was very nice too. My wife and I only stayed one night but could easily have stayed longer. We loved it and will definitely return.

The breakfast was a disaster. The bacon was so tough I couldn’t cut it and it broke into little pieces, while the baked beans were dry. I complained and got another bowl of beans, but no bacon. The room had too much furniture, dirty marks on the paint, and an old carpet that didn’t look clean. There was also a big gap under the door, so light from the hall came through. I was very disappointed and cut my trip short, going home a day early. They took some money off breakfast, but it should have been 12.50 and I was charged 7 pounds.
