I travel often and stay in hotels around the world, and I’ve never had so many service problems and coordination failures in such a short time. I’m sharing this so the hotel can address these issues and improve the guest experience, not just to complain. When I arrived, a staff member kindly offered to take my bag to the luggage room. I waited for a claim ticket to show it was mine, but the staff member didn’t come back, and I was left waiting without any information. A few minutes later, I asked another receptionist where I could buy cigarettes nearby. He simply said, “I’m not the right person to ask.” I’d expected a more helpful and professional response, such as offering to check with a colleague. Later I came back for my bag. The same staff member refused to return it without the ticket and walked away. Another colleague also asked for the ticket. I had to describe the bag and prove it was mine, only to find that the ticket had been attached directly to it. Getting my luggage back took nearly half an hour. When I reached my room, there was no TV remote.
We stayed five nights for the Man Citi matches, and I was pleasantly surprised by Ibis Portland. The hotel is very clean, in a perfect central location, and has a warm, inviting feel, with a youthful design in both the lobby and rooms. Breakfast was varied and tasty. For a three-star place, its rating is exceptionally high, and the staff provided outstanding service. I haven’t had such great service in a long time. A real hotel experience, thank you!
The room was very clean and comfortable, and the pod ensuite had a great shower and good facilities. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout. Breakfast was at the nearby sister hotel, Novotel, and offered plenty of choice. It got quite busy and food took a little while to be replenished, but it was still very good value. The location was great.
Nicole greeted us at reception and was really friendly, polite and helpful. She explained what we needed to know and arranged early check-in after a quick registration. The room was cosy and nice, and the location fairly central. A very enjoyable stay, highly recommended!
The room was clean, if a little snug, and the bed was very comfortable. The buffet breakfast, served at the Novotel next door, was about what you’d expect, no better or worse. The restaurant manager there was very apologetic and did everything he could to help after hearing about my request, and the staff were good overall. But no one had told him. We thought we’d booked the very good Ibis at 2 Portland St, where we’d stayed before. When we arrived, we learned it had been sold to someone else and our hotel was now half a mile down the road. The staff at 96 didn’t seem particularly interested. I’d requested lactose-free milk in advance for breakfast, specifically not soya, oat or anything like that. The desk staff just said, “Sorry, we don’t do that.” At No 2 they’d gone to Tesco Express around the corner especially to get some. That’s good customer service. Ibis may have lost our custom in a very crowded market of competitors.
