Manchester South Inn Sure Collection by Best Western

The receptionist was kind enough to let us leave our massive kit bag in the conference room that morning before check-in, which we really appreciated. The bus into the city centre stops right outside, so the location was a big plus. Our room was clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I had one of my best nights’ sleep in a hotel for ages. The building is showing its age, though, with peeling paint, loose fittings and a bathroom floor that lifted a few times. Breakfast was okay but mediocre, with not much choice. We enjoyed the stay overall and would probably return when visiting Manchester Metropolitan University.

There are a lot of stairs here, so it isn’t suitable for disabled guests. From reception you go up two staircases, down another to the bar and rooms, then I had two more to reach the top floor. My room itself was very nice, clean and tidy, with good bedding and a good shower. Fine for passing through, but not somewhere I’d choose for a holiday.

We had a decent one-night stay with my mother, sister and niece. The place has a blend of old and modern, and the people inside were friendly. Some corridors looked a little creepy, which kind of adds to the charm. Parking costs extra, as you’d expect in most places. The room got very hot, and opening the windows was the only way to get air in. I was a bit uneasy about leaving them open while we slept.

The staff were excellent, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. It’s also easy to get into the city on a direct bus. But sleep was impossible for us: the walls are thin and the floors creak so much that we heard every footstep. The room itself was nice, but I can’t recommend the hotel if a good night’s rest matters to you.
