Travelodge Manchester Sportcity

The bathroom smelled so strongly of bleach that I had to keep the door shut and the fan running after airing out the room. The bed sheets were cleanish, but the carpet was filthy and sticky. My socks went in the bin after walking on it. This was the filthiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’d have been better off with a tent and air mattress. 0.5/5, and checking out was the best part.

Breakfast was lovely, and the staff were always ready to help. The room got a little warm, so I slept with the window open.

The room was cosy and clean, with a spotless bathroom, fluffy white towels and plenty of warmth. Julie checked us in and helped with tea and directions to the etihad stadium, which was literally a 15 min walk. We were there with my husband going to a Man City game. The restaurant and bar were clean, too, and the staff were welcoming. The price was amazing value.

The staff were genuinely lovely and welcoming, and the TV worked fine. Beyond that, the room was a letdown and the hotel felt neglected, below the usual Travelodge standard. It was tiny, so staying more than one night would have been hard. The bed was less comfortable than others I’ve had at Travelodges, the bathroom tap was missing its top, and the bedside lampshades were dirty and broken. There was just one accessible socket in the whole room, nowhere near the bed. The décor looked very dated and needed refurbishment, and I could hear conversations from the adjoining room, which made it hard to relax. The car park didn’t feel especially safe.
