We have a holiday let in Jameston, and often walk across the fields to Manorbier beach so the dog can burn off some energy. Then we head to The Castle for food and drinks. Never had a bad meal or pint there. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

The beef chilli I had was really good, and the fish and chips looked enormous. Someone else had chicken, which was tasty and a very generous portion too. Great food, beer and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

The chips were spot on, crisp outside and creamy inside. I stopped by on a rainy Sunday just five minutes before the kitchen closed, and somehow ended up with what I’m convinced is the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Even nine hours later, I still thought so. Thank you!

I’ve been coming to the Castle Inn a few times most summers and usually enjoy it. The beer garden has been tidied up over the years, and it’s still a cosy little pub with a decent choice of beers on tap. The food is generally very good, especially the flatbreads, which are tasty, filling and good value. The young staff are friendly, though food service can be patchy. Sometimes nobody checks in after the food arrives, and tables can be left uncleared. It gets busy, so I’d book ahead. Everyone is pleasant enough, but two recent visits left me a bit let down on value. The squid side was tasty, but £9 for four modest rings felt steep. The vegetarian sharing platter was worse value at £30, one of the priciest menu items, and there wasn’t enough for two to share. It came with six small feta-stuffed peppers, about the same number of little falafels, some halloumi, a small green salad, dips and one small flatbread. The menu listed olives, but there weren’t any. It all tasted fine, but for that price I felt robbed. At around the flatbread price, a little over half as much, and without calling it a sharing platter, it would have seemed fair. I’m a regular and hope they take this honest feedback on board. It’s a good little place, and it would be a shame if more customers left disappointed like we have recently.

We were staying in Lydstep and tried this place on a recommendation. The food was amazing, and the pub has a lovely old-school feel. We couldn't get through on the landline to book, but they managed to fit three of us at a reserved table if we ate quickly, which we did. The staff were so accommodating to us and to another couple who also couldn't book. It's a shame it's not local to us, an eight-hour round trip for fish and chips isn't practical. If you're nearby and want great food in a friendly place, this is the one. 10 out of 10.
