A wrong turn down an alley led me to what turned out to be the best and oldest pub in Margate. All three staff members I met were lovely, the customers were friendly, and the prices were more than fair. It became a favourite straight away. If you're in Margate and skip this pub, I don't know what's wrong with you!
We came down from Essex for a weekend in Margate and stumbled across the Northern Belle. John and his team made us feel really welcome, and the locals were all friendly. There was a great atmosphere and an amazing singer, which made our night perfect 🥰
This hidden gem has become my new regular. The landlord is kind, makes everyone feel like family and does his best for all the customers. I'm so proud of the way this pub has been turned around for the better x
The starters and the chilli garlic were delicious. The owners wife makes it at home, and he's right, they should bottle it! That had us excited for the mains, but those were a bit underwhelming for the price. The portions were fairly substantial, though the dishes were too sweet for us. The chicken in my broth was delicious, but I expected a rice broth from the menu and got noodles instead. My partner's egg looked like it might have been in the fridge for a few days, and we would have hoped for something fresher. At £20, a noodle broth feels steep even for London, and we've had better food in Margate for that price. We were really looking forward to having Cambodian food nearby and hope it improves so we can give it another try. I feel bad giving three stars because the owner and staff were so lovely. It was a busy Saturday evening, and getting around the restaurant was a bit difficult. The pub itself is lovely. Our seats were uncomfortable, though maybe we picked the wrong ones for our height. There's a good drink selection, including Cambodian style cocktails.
They made us feel welcome at this lovely little pub, and it stays open later than the other places nearby.
