The fire was lovely to sit beside, and the rear parking was handy. We found the rooms nice, and the food was stunning, clearly prepared by a chef who pays attention to detail. The staff were all cheerful. We only caught the names Jo, Emma and Liam, but everyone deserves a mention. Well worth a visit.

The vegetables were the surprise star of the meal, cooked amazingly well. We both went for steak pie, our usual pub choice, and weren’t disappointed: it was generously filled with tender meat, with a good-sized portion and fluffy, hand-cut chips. We had a beautiful meal and will be back. Thanks for a great experience.

The bar area felt cosier and more welcoming than the restaurant, and it was very dog friendly. We settled into comfortable chairs by the fire with mulled wine, just right for a miserable rainy day. Sunday lunch was an excellent value carvery, with generous portions, good food and friendly service. Parking was the drawback: there’s very little, though we got lucky and found a nearby street space.

There was plenty of friendly banter with the staff, and we really enjoyed the homemade carvery, especially the generous portions. We booked Sunday lunch after deciding to try the local while staying in Matlock. Everyone welcomed us warmly and showed us to our table. The house white was lovely too. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Matlock.

The rooms were comfortable, and the power shower was fantastic. Breakfast was brilliant, and there was a great selection on the menu for evening meals, which were fantastic too.
