I hadn’t planned to come here, but we changed our plans and found this lovely place. We parked at Bonsall Village car park, just a few steps from The Gardens; there’s an honesty box with a £2 fee. Entry to the garden is a reasonable £8. You can wander through its different sections or climb up for a view across the whole garden. Alan, who built it, was a pleasure to meet and chat with, and I’m hoping to come back in summer. They also sell a range of plants, including bonsai. Their website has details about the gardens, retreats, talks and a B&B.

We were glad we took a detour here. There’s plenty of information about plants and ideas for making a peaceful little haven of your own, and the bonsai collection and equipment are an added bonus. A real delight.

The whole family was so welcoming, and Jake the cat was especially friendly. Alan is an amazing host. It’s a beautiful garden and house, and it really deserves more recognition.

We spotted this little gem while driving past and decided to stop. Alan has spent 30 years turning it into the peaceful sanctuary it is now. He also shared a beautiful story about what led him to Buddhism. Definitely worth a visit, and they sell bonsai trees and other plants too.
