Castle Hotel

The staff were apologetic when we raised the problems, but they couldn’t move us to the twin room we’d booked. We’d been given a double instead, which wasn’t suitable for two grown men, and the stay ruined our weekend. We’ve asked for a full refund. The room was in a shocking state: just one towel and one cup, a filthy bathroom, and hair left around the dirty bedroom. The shower was unusable because there was almost no water pressure. What we found at the Castle Hotel was nothing like the pictures advertised online.

The manager was lovely, friendly and helpful, and the dishes we tried were tasty, well cooked and good value. This is a budget hotel with comfortable rooms and a good standard of cleaning, though the decor in my room was just OK. Its central spot puts it among plenty of bars and restaurants, which also means noise on Friday and Saturday nights. One night I was awake until 2am. Parking was very cheap, but the multi-storey car park closes on Sundays and locks your car in. I had to call the emergency line to get mine out. The signs around the car park were massive, so I should have read them, but it would still be helpful to include a warning in an information pack or on a poster in reception. Even with that, I thought it was well worth the money.

The Castle Hotel is clean, and the rooms are bright, airy and serviced daily. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and breakfast is freshly made and good value. It’s under ten minutes from the bus and train stations and the town centre, making it an economical base for a visit to Wales.

The hotel is right by the town centre, and the staff were friendly with excellent service. My room was clean, and I had a lovely stay while in the area for exams. Breakfast cost extra, but it was absolutely worth paying for.
