Leonardo Hotel Middlesbrough

Breakfast was excellent and worth what it cost. Samarth greeted us at the front desk and was such a pleasant, professional, helpful man. We were very happy with the stay and will definitely book again.

The spa was pleasantly quiet, and the hotel felt clean and fresh. The food was lovely, and it was clearly very well run. Its location works well for a night out, with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance.

The breakfast was the standout for us. The two women in the restaurant were friendly, welcoming and professional, explained everything clearly, and made delicious vegetarian sausages and poached eggs fresh. We thanked them before leaving. The room was a good size but felt dated, and some areas could use a deeper clean. We raised concerns and the team dealt with them well afterwards. At the spa, the pool seemed to have so much chlorine that our eyes burned in the water. The young woman at the spa reception didn't seem very interested in helping, spending much of the time on her phone with her feet up. Pool towels were kept at the main reception, which was confusing, and when we asked where to leave used ones, the directions were vague. The response got quite sharp when we asked for clarification. Check-in began well, with a friendly, polite woman at reception, though there were a couple of small misunderstandings about the facilities and parking. The team later clarified those professionally. Checkout didn't include any questions about our stay, but the hotel followed up afterwards and resolved everything to a high standard. That service made a real difference and left us with a more positive impression. We had a few problems, but they were handled well in the end. Better communication and some attention to the spa area would help this hotel reach its potential.

The staff were good, and breakfast was good too, but I don't think the stay was worth the money and wouldn't recommend it. The room was very dirty, smelt bad when I walked in, and looked old enough to need renovation. The toilet hadn't been flushed, and there was some .... left. It clearly hadn't been cleaned before I arrived. I didn't expect that from a 4 star hotel.
