We stayed one night and found the room comfortable and good value, with a great breakfast. It’s dog friendly, too. The pub itself is cosy and welcoming, with good beers and friendly service. We had a proper steak pie, not stew under a puff pastry lid, followed by an amazing apple and Christmas pudding crumble. The food was lovely. Thoroughly recommend.

We always try to stop here when we’re passing through or staying nearby, and Sunday’s visit was no letdown. The food hits the spot, with good quality and decent portions. Staff are consistently friendly, and there’s always a good choice of cask beer. It’s a fine example of how a pub should be run. I hope it gets through the challenges facing hospitality. If I lived closer, I’d be here all the time. Keep up the good work.

The fire made for a lovely atmosphere at Sunday lunch. I had the lamb roast followed by jam sponge, and I’d highly recommend it.

We came in for a Sunday afternoon drink, then saw the roasts going past and were glad they could fit us in for a meal. The roast beef was delicious and well worth recommending, with every part cooked just right. Lucie suggested a wine that was delicious with the food, and the service was excellent throughout. We’ve eaten at The Wheatsheaf before and it never disappoints.

This is a delightful 17th-century pub, modernised fairly sympathetically. I didn’t see the rooms, but the food and drink were excellent. It’s much brighter inside than when I last visited, forty years ago.
