The bathrooms were great for most of our stay, though on the last day there was no hot water before the stated cut-off time. The place feels homely, with board games, a fireplace, a garden and outdoor grilling facilities. Read the guidebook too, since everything in it is endorsed.

The garden was lovely, with plenty of places to sit, a huge fire pit and a new BBQ. We were a bit wary of getting the BBQ dirty, though. Inside, the kitchen was so well equipped I wanted to take it home, and the rain shower got plenty of use during our week. Bedding and towels were supplied, and there were lots of games and an Amazon Firestick, though the internet was slow. The king bed in the blue Room was very soft. We had no limits on hot water, gas or electricity. Parking is off-road at the back: leave the high street by the tree junction, turn right, and the small drive is on the right. The owner recycles, and guests are asked to do the same and put boxes and food bins in the front garden on Tuesday night.

3 elm cottage was spotless and had everything we could need, from a coffee maker and electric whisk to the simplest mug. It felt like home, and it's easily the best place I've stayed. Definitely worth a visit.
