Locanda on the Weir

Breakfast was almost the best part of each day, though dinner took the top spot on the night we had it. Dinner is only served four nights a week, so on the other evenings you’re left with the pub or oyster bar across the road. Still, the food was exquisite, and I’d definitely return. Our room was spacious and lovely, with a very comfortable bed. Lucy and Pio made us feel welcome, and we liked sitting in the lounge with a cocktail and vinyl records. With only four rooms, the atmosphere stays intimate even when fully booked. Locanda on the Weir is full of lovely pictures and objects. I counted more than 50 pictures in the breakfast room alone, and noticed something new every day. Porlock Weir is small and peaceful, and watching the tide change became our daily ritual. This place was the highlight of our 16-day trip.

We’ve just come back from a two-day break at Locanda on the Weir. The food was outstanding, and with the care they put into every detail, it was easy to imagine dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The service was exceptional too. It’s a beautiful hotel just a stone’s throw from the sea. Thank you, Cindy and Pio.

We came for the evening set menu rather than staying overnight, and it surpassed our expectations. The meal was inventive, with every course beautifully presented and delicious. We’ve tried quite a few tasting menus, and this was right up among the very best. The chef and manager were both lovely to meet, professional yet friendly and interesting to talk with. We arrived early to have a wander around the area, which is well worth doing. Superb.

The staff were welcoming and professional, and the place is dog friendly if you let them know beforehand. We came for the set menu, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Every course was exceptionally good, made with local and homegrown ingredients. The restaurant and bar are beautifully decorated, with ocean views, and there’s an extensive choice of cocktails and wine. A real gem. We’ll definitely return.
