Patsy deserves a special mention for being so welcoming and generous, and the staff were helpful and accommodating throughout. We had a wonderful stay at The Castle, right in the village center and very close to porlock weir. The food was superb, and the rooms were good too.

We slept well in a good room at this locally owned pub, which has a very nice feel to it. Breakfast was a little basic, for example, there was only white sliced toast.

The food was lovely, the puddings were tasty, and the portions were generous. We phoned ahead because our rescue dachshound is anxious and barks at every dog, which can make eating out difficult. The kind gentleman who answered said he’d put us in the restaurant area where it was quieter. When we arrived just after 6pm, part of the restaurant had been closed off for us, so we could enjoy dinner together peacefully without any issues. A really welcoming place, and I’d recommend it to anyone needing extra support with a nervous pup while looking for good food.

I was keen to try an English Ale, but the glass of Tribute I got was cloudy, flat, and unpleasant. I took it back to the bar, where the lady told me it was okay. I couldn’t drink it and left it there. Soon after, a scruffy-looking bald-headed man came in and started pumping from the section where my drink had been served. My English friend thought I’d been given the "end of the barrel" because a new one was being pulled through. Why serve me something I couldn’t drink?

A marvellous find on our day trip. This traditional pub had excellent food at good prices and a nice atmosphere. There were plenty of local customers, which helps keep the place real and unpretentious.
