The shared kitchen was handy, with a fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, cookers and hobs, plus plenty of plates, pans and glasses. There was also a lounge and dining area. The bathrooms were clean and mostly modern, and the heating worked well. The hostel was lovely and very clean. We had no problems sharing during our quiet visit, though I'm not sure how it would feel when full. It's a bit out of the way, as we knew, so come prepared. The track is rough, so drive slowly, and parts have no lights, so take a torch if you're walking in the evening. Minehead is about a 30-minute walk away, with woodland walks all around. O2 didn't work at all, even for calls, and the WiFi was intermittent, so bear that in mind if you need to stay connected. A few benches outside would be nice on sunny days. The green light that stays on all night, presumably for health and safety, was far too bright and kept me awake. I eventually made a den in the bunk beds to block it out, but it would ideally be much dimmer.

We had lots of walks right from the hostel, including one through the woods to Duster Castle, and the warden even lent us a map. The staff were very welcoming. The self-catering kitchen was good, and the place was comfortable for my family of four. It's a bit out of town, which suited us perfectly. We'd happily stay again.

The mobile signal was patchy, to put it mildly, and it took quite a long walk to get a decent connection. The hostel is a bit off the beaten track. Apart from that, I enjoyed my stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the members' kitchen was well equipped for self-catering. Thank you.

We booked the place exclusively for three days with the family, and it made a perfect getaway. The grounds and surroundings are beautiful. It's quite remote and perhaps feels more so than it really is, but you'll certainly need a car. The facilities are fine, with plenty of living room and good-sized kitchens. Minehead is a lovely, fairly small town, with sandy beaches and a beautiful hilly setting.

The hostel was spotlessly clean, and we were all asked to bring slippers or thick socks for indoors. We had it as a private booking, so I can't comment on the usual warden service. The forest location is fantastic, though parking by the hostel is limited to eight cars, with space for more a little farther away. The lounge isn't quite big enough for a private hire if everyone wants to sit together in the evening, and the dining room would struggle too.
