Raven’s Cliff, Motherwell by Marston's Inns

The pub let the stay down. Its grill was broken, which left only a limited evening menu, and breakfast felt like nobody had paid it much attention. The juice jugs were empty, the coffee machine wasn’t on so there was only instant coffee, the sandwich bread was just crusts, and the eggs were very overdone. Really disappointing. The room itself was lovely, clean, and accessible.

Breakfast was brilliant, and the room had everything we needed for our one-night stay. The beds were very comfortable, too. Staff were welcoming and happy to accommodate us.

For £46, the double room was excellent value, and the place has plenty of parking with an eatery on site serving breakfast. We arrived very late after an accident on the motorway, but the porter was friendly. The room was clean and in good order, with plenty of bedside plugs. The mattress had a big dip on one side, though, so two people seemed to be sleeping at different levels. I couldn’t find a hair dryer either. It looked like a typical hotel room, but overall I can’t complain about the price.

We were really happy we chose this hotel, and wish we could have spent the whole Scotland vacation here. The pub across the road had delicious food, plenty of choices, and convenient prices. Inside, the room was spacious, bright, spotless, and furnished in a modern, practical style. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was so clean and nicely arranged that I’m thinking of borrowing some ideas for home. Security was reassuring, with several levels and supervision during the day and night. Staff were helpful and polite from start to finish, even though we arrived very late and they were probably tired. Of the four hotels we used on the trip, this one suited all our needs best. Nothing bad to say.
