The meal was the highlight for me. They’d run out of pork belly, but when the server checked with the chef, they offered loin instead. I went for it and was very glad I did: a huge piece, nicely seared outside and tender within. We had a great room too, with plenty of space for our medium-sized dog, a lounge and bathroom downstairs, and the bedroom upstairs. The heating was easy to control and worked really well. The pub is dog-friendly and had a lovely log fire going. I’d stay and eat here again 👍

We spent three days at the Gaskell Arms in a newly decorated Mews suite, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included, and we also enjoyed a very good evening meal. Service was excellent throughout. A great base for exploring the Shropshire hills, thoroughly recommended.

The rooms are great and clean, but the food lets the place down. My breakfast was overcooked, with cheap ingredients that seemed to have been thrown into the fryer with old oil. The beef in the Sunday roast was nice, but some vegetables were frozen and cooked to death, and the Yorkshire pudding was swimming in oil. Such a shame.

We’ve never stayed in the rooms, but we’ve had a lovely breakfast, yummy lunch and the best Sunday dinner. The Christmas meal was outstanding too. The staff are lovely, especially the older lady who seems to be there day and night serving guests. It’s a friendly atmosphere, and everyone works so hard to make your meal what you want. Thanks to the waitresses, chef and bar staff for always welcoming us. I’ve brought all my family here, and they loved it too. Thank you all, Scott and lesley savery

The Mews No.2 room was unbelievable value, with a comfy lounge downstairs and a large, cozy bedroom above. I was away on business and had a really enjoyable stay at the Gaskell Arms. The evening meal was excellent, and we enjoyed it with hospitable staff in a lovely old pub setting. The stay finished with one of the best full English breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. I’ll be back when work brings me here again.
