We’d been to The Dovecote before, and I understand it has changed hands. Our friends had booked The Ploogh near Laxton, but it was closed when we arrived, so we went here instead. The meal was excellent. Two of us had sea bream, one had homemade beef pie and said it was the best he’d eaten in a long time, and the fourth had very flavoursome coq au vin. I should have stopped there, but the desserts were too tempting and everyone enjoyed their choice. Friendly, efficient service too. I’d love to go again and thoroughly recommend it.

We drank, had dinner and stayed overnight at the Dovecote inn, and the whole visit was perfect. The room was beautiful and incredible value, the beer and drinks were well kept and prepared, and the food was superb. The chef clearly knows what they’re doing. Service was second to none. If you fancy a little break away, this lovely village inn gave us a friendly welcome, first-class service, excellent food and drink, and a comfortable room that was well looked after. Thanks so much for having us and taking care of us, we hope to return soon!

The food was excellent and well served, though on a Sunday the service ends a bit early if you’re staying to break a journey. The rooms are comfortable and there’s good parking. Breakfast being delivered to the room seemed a bit odd at first, but it worked well, especially since the food was pretty good. The only downside was setting off the smoke alarm with the toaster!

That turkey burger I had last week was absolutely delicious. I’d never seen cheese crème brûlée starter on a menu before, but it was brilliant too. It’s a proper English countryside pub, with a lovely cosy atmosphere and faultless service. I’ll definitely be back.

The food, drinks and service were faultless, as they usually are. We ended up back in the bar to finish our drinks as soon as we could. We’d booked online and mentioned our dog, but that had been missed, so we couldn’t use our original table and were moved to a small side room where dogs were allowed. A large group there was friendly, but very loud, and their language got increasingly offensive. It wasn’t the atmosphere we’d expected.
