The Plough Retreat

The pub was quite noisy on Friday and Saturday nights, as you'd expect, but I'd still recommend staying here. I came for two nights for a horse show. The room was clean, tidy, comfortable and had lots of useful appliances. During the cold snap, the first night felt very cold while the heater took time to warm the room. The location is great, parking is good, and it's easy to find and get into.

Very basic accommodation. The mattress and bedding felt cheap, the floor needed sweeping, and the electric heater left the room far too hot and stuffy. The pub serves no food on Mondays or Tuesdays. At night I couldn't see the keypad for the outside door and ended up using my phone torch. I also had to phone for the passwords because no email had arrived. I definitely won't stay at The Plough Retreat again.

A good stay overall. The room was spacious, clean and tidy, with everything I needed for a few nights, and I'd stay again. I did worry about the digital lock failing and letting somebody else into the room, so I'd like an inside lock too. Travelling alone as a woman, safety is always on my mind.

Sorry to say I was disappointed. The beds had no pillow or mattress protectors, which I think should be a must in any rental room. The bed frame and skirting were very dusty, the inside of the microwave was peeling and a bit rusty, the bathroom window blinds were dusty too, and there was black dirt inside the toilet rim. I tried cleaning it myself. I know this was a basic room, but I'd still expect a certain standard. The bed was comfortable, though I didn't like the missing protectors.
