St Christopher's Inn, Newquay - Hostel

Right among the cool shops and restaurants if you feel like going out, and a perfect spot for surfing in Newquay. The atmosphere is friendly, the prices are convenient, and there's an amazing view. Recommended!

The view and location are nice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here if cleanliness matters to you. It's very low-cost and basic, and the rooms don't look as nice in person as they do in the pictures. The bedding and linen are old and dirty and need replacing. Both the rooms and bathrooms need refurbishment, and getting luggage up the stairs is difficult, especially for anyone with special needs. The sockets and lighting also need modernising so they work with USB cables.

The beds were fine, but the place was appallingly dirty. The bathrooms were barely cleaned once in 24 hours, and there was dirt and food debris in the rooms. This didn't feel like something a quick clean by a staff member could fix; it seemed the place hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. On top of that, two loud, drunk men in their 50s came in at 11pm, slept fully clothed, talked on their phones about where their drugs were, and ate noisily at 1am. It was my rest day on the SW Coast Path, and I got about three hours of sleep. The staff were fine but hardly around. I checked out after one night and went to the surf hostel up the road. It's really sad and embarrassing that British hostels can be this bad for international guests.

The view from my dorm bed was absolutely amazing (see photo)! Great spot near the beach, with chill staff and a nice vibe. There's no kitchen, which was the only downside, but lots of places to eat and a Sainsbury’s across the road. They have social activities in the bar, and everyone is super friendly. I'm definitely going back!
