Colwick Hall Hotel

The hotel building is beautiful and has a lot of potential, which made our stay all the more disappointing. We paid £230 for one night in the Lord Byron Room, advertised as the luxury suite, for our son’s 8th birthday, and it didn’t feel worth the money. The room was tired and needed refurbishment. The soft furnishings were stained, the carpet worn, and the bedding felt old. The pillows were lumpy and smelled unpleasant. It got very hot overnight, we couldn’t figure out how to turn off the heating, and the window only opened a little. There was no mini fridge to keep drinks cold. Our son was excited about the freestanding bath, but its plug wasn’t attached properly. A small piece of string tied to it snapped when we tried to drain the bath, and we struggled to get it out. The handheld shower hose had holes, so water sprayed everywhere when I tried to rinse his hair. I used the main shower instead, but it didn’t drain properly and flooded the bathroom floor. I had to use all the towels to dry it, and they turned black, which made me think the floor hadn’t been cleaned properly. When we arrived, we were asked whether we’d have breakfast. We said yes, and were later charged £44.84 for two adults and one child, which felt extremely expensive. Our son became unwell and we left early. At checkout I politely asked whether breakfast could be refunded, since we wouldn’t be staying for it because he had a poorly tummy. I was told a refund wasn’t possible, but that the restaurant was still open if we wanted to go. Given the circumstances, I found that quite insensitive.
