Hart's Hotel and Restaurant

The location was fantastic, and the service was friendly and polite. But the room didn’t live up to the hotel’s exterior. It felt cramped for the price, and the shower screen let water leak everywhere. I’d really been looking forward to the stay, so it was a bit disappointing.

We booked at the last minute while on the way, after our original hotel went into administration. They welcomed us from the car park, possibly before we were meant to arrive, and luckily our room was ready. They didn’t turn us away or charge for early check-in. It’s perfectly placed for the city centre. The room was small but fine for sleeping, with good tea and coffee facilities and an optional mini bar. It felt a little dated, but the bed was comfortable and the sheets clean. Housekeeping could have paid more attention to the bathroom details, though I work in the industry and probably notice more than most. Some people mention noise, but we were on the second floor and had no disturbance. I can see why others might find it noisy, since the doors don’t have soft closers. Room service was reasonably priced, and staff were professional and polite throughout. Breakfast was nice. We booked through hotels.com, where the prices weren’t clear, and there were extra charges for parking and breakfast. We paid since we used those services. We had a lovely, relaxed stay, with easy access to the city and the convenience of EV charging.

Soft closers or something around the inner frame could stop them banging. The room was already expensive, and breakfast cost extra. The outside looks lovely, but the rooms don’t match it. They felt dated and small, especially given that we’d paid extra for a superior room. There was a breakfast allergy issue because of incorrect labelling, which could have caused serious problems for my health. I carry an EpiPen, but a labelling mistake at a luxury boutique hotel shouldn’t leave me having to consider using it. The breakfast staff didn’t seem trained for this. There were only three tables and three staff members, yet our toast was forgotten and our breakfast was finished by the time it arrived. Someone came over and apologised, and the issue was dealt with, but by then it was a bit late.
