My stay was in February 2022, so this review is a few years old. I paid £25 a night for the single room then, and breakfast was included. Breakfast is no longer served, which I’d hoped would bring the price down a little. I understand that electricity, gas, tax, and food costs in the area have gone up, so I can see why Don Muir had to cut back. Prices for the single room now seem to be £40-65 depending on the season. That still compares well with hotels: I paid £45 for the cheapest one I could find during an early December stay in 2025. It still looks like good value and beats most hotels, and for much of the year it’s the cheapest place to stay in Oban. The single room felt homely and comfortable. It could get chilly in winter, but the thick duvet did the job. I left the heating on during the day once, which was a mistake because it causes mould and electricity isn’t cheap for the host. The bathroom was shared, but I never had to wait or keep another guest waiting. The host was friendly and easy to talk to. There’s a steep walk up to the property, but I enjoyed it as part of the experience. Buses and taxis are available if the hill worries you. Pulpit Hill is nearby and has great views over Oban and beyond. Must visit!

Carolyn made me feel very safe as a woman travelling alone. She was welcoming and suggested good places to visit. The bedroom was perfect, and though I was nervous about sharing a bathroom, it turned out to be no problem. I also loved the little breakfast selection and choice of refreshments. The place is up a gradual slope, about a 10-minute walk from the town centre, with a beautiful harbour view along the way. Pulpit Hill viewpoint is just a couple of minutes on foot. I’ll definitely return on my next trip to Oban!

The room was nicely decorated, and I liked the colour scheme. The kettle was a normal size and the bed was comfortable. There was a small basket with cereal, Iron Bru, and crisps, plus milk, orange juice, and yogurt in the fridge. Some parts of the room and bathroom could use a better clean. The tap had no hot water, and I couldn’t get the sink plug to lift. It’s a 10-15 minute walk into town. There’s no on-site parking, but you can park a short walk away at Pulpits Hill. I’d stay again, and book directly for a good price.

We had a lovely three-night stay at Don Muir. Our room was large, the bed was comfortable, and we had everything we needed. The spot is quiet and up the hill, but still close enough to enjoy everything Oban has to offer. Thank you for such a lovely stay. Russell and Lee

Check-in was seamless, and I really appreciated the complimentary tray. The room was clean and cozy, and it made me feel right at home. I had an amazing stay!
