The cosy bar has a stunning view across the bay towards Mull, and there was an excellent folk session on Friday night. Oban is an extremely popular, busy port, so this vintage hotel feels like a rare find and a refreshing step back in time, with simply the best staff around. I can't agree with the negative reviews. I've stayed here often and found it clean, very welcoming, and fairly priced. I look forward to coming back.

The staff are five-star and do their best with what they have. The Lancaster has seen better days, but it's not expensive, and a cooked breakfast costs £10, so in many ways you get what you pay for. The cost-cutting shows in things like the bath towels, breakfast juice, and bar stock. A good hotel for a short visit with the guys.

The room for four had just enough space, though the toilet was small. The sea view was superb, and it was good value for money.

The WiFi barely reaches beyond reception, and each corridor had a different suspicious smell. The TV was about the size of an A4 sheet, with only around three channels working, all in 420p. The hotel, especially the rooms, is severely outdated. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We remember the bay views from the dining area and bar, and the staff were very friendly. The food was enjoyable and excellent value. We love the hotel's old character and charm. We looked around and nothing else compared on price, given the location and value. They delivered much more than we expected, and we'll return. Some negative comments seem to come from unrealistic expectations.
