I'm looking forward to moving in. I was walking by this lovely place advertising affordable accommodation, and when I went in, the locals greeted me so warmly. The landlady's assistant showed me a nice ensuite room with a very reasonable monthly rent. I'm leaving West Coast Motors corporate accommodation because I'm not happy about having to share.

The staff and locals are bloody lovely, and the Guinness is excellent. It was £4.30 in December 2025, so I don't know how they serve such good Guinness for so little. The place could probably use a bit of TLC, but that adds to the charm. A proper pub, and we're heading back today!

The location is fantastic, right by the train station and ferry, and the Saturday staff and locals in the bar were friendly. But the hotel is in very poor condition and badly needs TLC. It feels so dated it's nearly derelict. The room and toilet were damp and dirty, the windows were filthy, and the uneven floors and ceiling made me feel like the roof might come down.

The location was the one good thing for me as I was travelling on foot. I booked through Hotels.com and was shocked this was even listed. Check-in was confusing, with no clear directions in advance. A local man smoking at the pub entrance, where a sign said “Clary” and there was no Claredon Hotel to be seen, sent me to the busy bar. I waited at least ten minutes for the bartender to find my key and explain where to go. I hauled my bag up three flights, passing the “Guest Lounge” and darts room after the first. The attic location did help with noise later, but the lounge, darts room and pub were lively when I returned from dinner. The second bartender could answer my WiFi and checkout questions, thankfully. The room smelled musty and was worn and dusty, so I opened a window and checked for bed bugs. It was clear it hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. The toilet seat was broken, and who knows how long it had been that way. My converter plug wouldn't work in any outlet, although it worked fine elsewhere the next day, so I couldn't charge my phone. With noise going on until the early hours, I barely slept and left as soon as I could. I wouldn't stay here again. It's one of my worst experiences, despite having travelled extensively and being comfortable with self-catered places. I'm not high maintenance, but this nearly pushed me over the edge.

The place was cheap, clean and comfortable, and I got to see claryoke 😆. The shower water pressure and temperature were poor, though. I'd happily stay again.
