The location was the one real plus for us. The room felt very cramped, and having no windows bothered me more than I expected when I booked. I also didn’t like the high bed. There’s a step into the bathroom; the bathroom itself is a good size, but the toilet was too high for me to sit with my feet flat, which I’ve never run into before. A few practical things weren’t great either. They provide a combined hair and body wash, not separate proper shampoo and conditioner, and I’d prefer a removable shower head so it’s easier to wash properly. Since we were two people, I’d rather have had two physical keys. You can use an app, but a key is better when there’s no signal. The door doesn’t lock by itself, so one day I realized we’d left it open, unless the cleaner had been in. You have to pull it until it clicks. There wasn’t a do not disturb sign either, though they didn’t try to clean while we were there.

No window, which I’d normally have a problem with, but the air con unit was on it. The room was clean and handy, access was easy, and communication was great. I slept really well, the bed was so comfortable and the linen was great. There was a little noise from other rooms, but it wasn’t a big issue, so bring earplugs. We drove up to Oban to see Trail West and were pleasantly surprised. We parked near Tesco, about 10 minutes away, and it was free for our stay. Get a ticket from the parking machine.

The location couldn’t be better, and the staff were incredibly helpful and quick to reply when contacted. The shower pressure was five stars. I liked the quirky windowless room on the first night, but by the second I felt a bit claustrophobic. A decent option for a one- or two-night stay if the price isn’t high.

The location is hard to beat, just steps from restaurants, the train station and ferry terminal. There’s no reception on site, but the call centre staff were quick and helpful. Remember to book parking separately, as none is provided. The room is compact, around 3x3m, and has no windows, so it may not suit anyone who wants natural light or more room. Even so, it’s cleverly laid out and didn’t feel cramped once we’d settled in. It has a comfortable high bed, clean towels, a kettle with tea, coffee and milk sachets, and air con. Shorter guests may find the bed takes some effort to climb into. When we first opened the bathroom door, there was a noticeable bad smell that hung around for a while. It might be from the shower trap drying out when the room hasn’t been used, and a quick flush of water could fix it. Despite those quirks, we enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

The location was excellent for our Oban and Hebrides travels, just a few metres from the railway station, ferry, shops and restaurants. The room had what we needed, with a nice bathroom, clean bedding and towels, a TV, kettle and hot drinks. The door app worked perfectly, and communication was clear and timely. Sleep was difficult, though. There was a bad smell that returned whenever the air con was off. I’m not sure if it came from poor ventilation, wallpaper glue or something else. There’s no natural light, which I appreciated with our early start and the 4am sunrise. We were in room 4 beside a noisy electric cupboard, and there were loud bangs from upstairs and doors slamming from after 10pm until around 2-3am. The sounds made it hard to get a good night's rest.
