Dunmoore Guesthouse

The location made it easy to walk to the centre and main attractions. We found the place friendly and welcoming, clean and tidy, with a nicely presented room, tea and coffee, towels and toiletries. A continental breakfast was included each morning, and you could order a cooked one for extra cost. The room was made up when requested and supplies topped up as needed. I do wish there'd been an evening meal option, or a table in the room so we could eat there. I'd happily recommend it and will return.

This time I had a double room, after staying in a single in 2023 as a returning guest. There was plenty of room to move around, the hosts were helpful, and the room was clean. The mattress felt too firm for me. I'd have preferred at least one thicker pillow instead of just slim ones.

The chemical smell on the bed linen was so strong I couldn't sleep. It seemed likely to be detergent, softener, or some synthetic fragrance spray, and felt like a whole bottle of unpleasant perfume had been poured on the bed. I tried airing the room and lying down for two hours, but gave up at 2:30am and slept in my car. This was the worst stay I've had at Scotland B&B. To the host: strong synthetic scents aren't just unpleasant. They can trigger headaches and nausea, and even disrupt hormone or reproductive health. Many places around the world are adopting Zero Scent Policies to protect guests from unnecessary exposure to harmful chemicals. To prospective guests: I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, especially people with chemical sensitivities or anyone who just wants a restful night's sleep.

The owners called a taxi for us when we left in the rain, and we'd taken one from the train station on arrival because we were tired and it was uphill. It was only 4.80. The guesthouse is easy to get to, with good, comfortable rooms and a wonderful breakfast. We loved Oban and would stay longer next time. Great place.
