We went for lunch, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The hearty traditional food was well cooked, and we got a warm, classic welcome at this Devonshire family pub. It’s easy to find and has plenty of parking, including a car park at the rear. We’ll visit again, thanks!

We’d driven past this pub lots of times, then finally stopped on Thursday 21 August. What a good choice. The service was super, and our food was delicious: I had the venison casserole, my wife chose the belly pork, and both came with a lovely selection of steamed vegetables. The plates are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Thanks to everyone at The Devonshire Dumpling!

We parked our long car in the free public car park across the road because it tended to stick out into the main road. Meals were about £14 each, I think, and came quickly. I had fish, chips and garden peas, while my partner chose the five bean curry. My fish was moist, the batter crisp, and the skin-on chips were crispy without being dry. The peas weren’t the best shade of green, but tasted OK. Big portion, tasty, and I was hungry enough to finish it. The barmaid and waitress were both smiling and polite. I’d happily recommend it to others. Andy.

Come hungry, the portions are generous. Everything had great flavour and was really impressive. We tried the lamb, veggie burger, fish and chips, and pie, then had some tasty desserts and drinks. Delicious!

The main courses were hard to fault, and the food was excellent. Some of the starter dishes had quite a lot of garlic, and the gluten-free choices weren’t extensive, but the overall quality and range were very good. Service was cheerful, the room spacious, and the loos very clean. There’s parking out front and a side garden where children can play safely. We’d driven past the Devonshire Dumpling many times without stopping, so I’m glad we finally went for dinner. It was good value and not overpriced. I’ll be back for another meal, and might consider staying there too.
