The kids spent hours in the river and had plenty of room to play, while my husband and I enjoyed how quiet it was. After days exploring Devon, the comfortable beds were a welcome treat, and the kitchen had everything we needed for family meals. The Old Mill in Jacobstowe is full of character, beautifully restored and spotless. We arrived to a warm welcome and thoughtful touches, including dog treats and garden games. It was an easy, peaceful base, close enough to the coast and nearby towns. We came away feeling rested and would love to return.

The river beside the cottage kept the kids happily paddling for ages, and Linda even found some inflatables for them. We were lucky to get a few sunny days, which made it extra special. The Old Mill Annexe felt wonderfully peaceful as soon as we arrived. Inside, it was clean and nicely decorated, with a well-stocked kitchen that made cooking easy. We all slept well in the comfortable beds, and the bedrooms still have original details from the building's days as a working water mill. There’s a lovely sense of history here.

My car breaking down turned into a pleasant surprise. We asked at the last minute if we could stay just one night, and the family welcomed my friend and me so warmly. The place was spacious and luxurious, with a kitchen that had more than we could have wanted. We enjoyed the bath and the bed, then took a lovely morning walk in the Lammas ambiance and ate breakfast in the sunny garden. Thank you, dear family. Perfect hosts!

Waking early to watch the sunrise by the river with my two dogs was a highlight. Linda said otter sightings are rare, so I felt especially lucky to spot one just after sunrise. The setting is full of wildlife: birds at the feeders, squirrels, and owls calling at night. There’s even a feeder fixed to the window beside the bed, so you can read while birds eat just inches away. The fenced area around the hut also meant I didn’t have to worry about my dogs wandering off. We loved the river walks and were worn out after a day exploring. I didn’t get around to trying the BBQ or fire pit, but I’ll make time next visit. The Shepherd's Hut was a lovely place to spend three nights, with peaceful surroundings and thoughtful equipment. It felt welcoming from the start, especially with the homemade loaf, plenty of Westcountry butter, apple juice, milk for tea and coffee, and fresh flowers. Linda takes pride in baking for guests and mentioned they’re working on a new sourdough recipe. The hut was cosy, the bed was comfortable, and the electric heater did its job. The hosts were very welcoming and had a big A4 folder full of useful information about walks, shops, and attractions. It was a proper escape from everyday noise. To quote Arnie, I'll be back!

A few days in the heart of West Devon was just what we needed. It was peaceful, romantic, and left us feeling recharged. Linda and Kevin greeted my partner and me with fresh flowers and delicious bread, and they were lovely hosts. The Shepherds hut is a gorgeous little retreat among timber, flowing water, birds, butterflies, and even otters. We’d happily recommend it and are definitely coming back.
