YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor

We rented the whole place for a long weekend in July 25 to celebrate Dad's 80th birthday and have a family reunion. Everyone had an amazing time, and we've had loads of lovely feedback from family and friends. The place was clean and comfortable, and the catering was amazing: a two-course meal on Friday evening, a hot and cold buffet on Saturday evening, and Sunday Roast. The function room is wonderful, with great views, and everyone loved the firepit area.

The Gurt Lush Choir from Bristol took over the Youth Hostel for a weekend, and we had a great time. I arrived at about 6pm, then we rehearsed before an evening meal of pasta with meat or a veggie alternative, followed by Apple crumble with custard. There were several bunk beds in the rooms, with a bathroom nearby. I was lucky enough to have the room to myself. The bed was comfortable, with a duvet, one pillow, a bedside light and a phone charging point. The shower was easy to use and mostly hot, and overall it was very comfortable. We had full cooked breakfasts and/or cereals and toast. On Saturday evening there was a chicken roast dinner, again with a veggie alternative, followed by jelly and ice cream. We were allowed to bring logs for a campfire on Saturday and had a great time singing our repertoire.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful when I was there for my good lady's work Christmas party. They were a great help.

Our group rented the whole centre. The facilities were great, and the rooms were clean and tidy. The only downside was the steady hum from the local main roads and dual carriageway.
