Travelodge Oswestry

The hotel is tucked away at the back of a dim car park at a service area, and it was hard to find after dark. Inside, it feels tired and badly in need of refurbishment. The entrance doors are heavy and awkward, with no automatic opener, which is a pain with luggage and probably impossible for anyone frail or disabled. In room 22 on the first floor, the USB port beside the bed was broken and there were no nearby sockets, so a laptop had to go across the room by the TV. That screen was cracked, though still watchable. The bathroom soap dispenser was empty, dust covered the wall above the bed, and a previous guest had even written “DUST” there with a finger. WiFi was very slow despite there being only a handful of guests. Travelodge is usually pretty good, but Travelodge Oswestry falls well short. It needs major improvement soon.

I was in room 26. The rooms were dusty, the floor was dirty, there was a bad smell, the toilets were blocked, and staff did not clean the rooms. They all need refreshing. But my main complaint is about what happened with a female staff member at this Oswestry, Wales hotel on 19 December 2025. First, my company emailed to say I was banned from the hotel 😱. I gathered all my work equipment and went downstairs in my full gear to explain. During the conversation, the staff member suddenly started crying, which seemed childish to me. I tried to apologise, but she locked herself in the reception area. I started banging on the door because I wanted to talk and apologise so she would stop crying. It was just before Christmas, and I didn’t want to be remembered as a grinch. I was shocked when she called the police instead. They arrived within a couple of minutes. I didn’t want to escalate things further, so I explained the situation and apologised again. In front of the officers, she was still crying, like a baby, because she was scared of me 🙈. Six officers came in total, which I believe was completely unnecessary and a waste of public resources. I had to take all my belongings and leave because she was still scared of me 🙈. My employer was also banned from all Traveloge hotels for no valid reason, and I lost my job as a result. 🤬 I’m extremely upset about how this was handled. I checked the hotel reviews and noticed a similar situation from a couple of months earlier. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Traveloge, you should apologise for all of this, and choose your staff more wisely in future so they don’t act like children. Have a lovely day.

Rubbish was strewn around the filthy entrance, and rats were running about outside. A flood in the lobby caused a horrific smell that reached our room and affected my husband's health. They did give us a full refund for our awful stay, but we still haven’t received it. As before, they don’t answer the phone or reply to emails. In over 60 years, we’ve never stayed in a worse hotel and never will again.

It’s basic but very reasonably priced, and the accommodation was cheap, clean and safe. Parking is close to reception, with the petrol station and shop nearby. There’s a Greg’s and a sandwich shop at the garage, so you can get breakfast, including coffee and bacon rolls. There’s one 50 KW EV charger near the fuel station, with a single bay, so it can charge only one CCS at a time. There are other chargers locally.
