The Black Horse Hotel

Good beer and a really friendly welcome every time. There’s a great atmosphere inside the bar, which keeps lots of its original features. The enclosed outdoor space is lovely too, and you can sit there in all sorts of weather.

We’ve stayed here for New Year’s Eve quite a few times and it’s always been lovely. The rooms are beautiful, cosy, warm and clean, and the staff are helpful and very friendly. I’d definitely recommend staying.

It’s 11:50 pm and another guest is blasting rap music and rapping along, very badly. Nobody is on site in the evening to deal with problems, so the other guests are left unable to sleep while this carries on. I can’t recommend staying here. Hotels can’t control every guest, but without anyone available to step in, this could happen during your stay.

The rooms were clean and tidy, and the location was convenient. But if you need a quiet night’s sleep, I wouldn’t stay here. Pub music and noise carried through to the bedrooms well past midnight, despite the pub supposedly closing at 10 pm. Then guests sang, shouted and ran along the corridors. There was no staff member around at night to contact or complain to. Traffic was audible all night too, since the windows aren’t double or triple glazed and the pub is on the main road. I wouldn’t recommend it.
