Happy hour, quiz night and an open mic on the last Friday of each month are among the regular events. They’ve got a great range of real ales, guest beers and wine, plus cracking food. The village pub and guest house are clean and tidy, and all the staff are super friendly. It’s definitely in my local pubs top five.

We found the food worth the wait: it was hot, filling and nicely cooked, with straightforward traditional pub dishes. Even without the discount, mains at £8-9 were really cheap, and we’d visit again. On our first visit to the half-moon, early on Sat (14/9/13), it felt like a typical village local. There were lots of smokers in the small rear entrance area, but there are two other entrances, so it wasn’t an issue. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We used a voucher for £8 for a main and a glass of wine or pint of their very nice ale. We were surprised to wait so long when we seemed to be the only couple eating, as staff seemed more focused on selling drinks at the bar.

The main courses were excellent: we shared antipasti as a starter, then had steak pie and chilli beef. The starter bread was a bit stale. With a pint and a glass of wine, the bill came to just under £30, which was good value. My first impression wasn’t great, entering from the car park past the smokers and into a noisy pool room, but it turned out to be a friendly pub with good food and beer.

The pie and peas were really good at lunch. We hung out with my brother over a few pints of Wharfedale Tether, which was a lovely beer, then stayed for dinner. The fish and chips and pork belly were both tasty. Friendly staff too. We’ll be back, and I’d happily recommend it. 🍻

Whenever I come down from the north east to visit my friend in the village, we make a point of stopping in. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the food looks lovely as well as tasting great. I’ll be back next month :)
