We've come back about twelve times over the past twenty years, and it's been perfect for our celebrations. Cadhay isn't a hotel, though you can book the house as a place to stay. It has twelve bedrooms and sleeps around 23. There's a huge dining room, a great kitchen, several lounges, a great hall, and even a museum. The house and grounds are beautiful, with lakes and a courtyard, yet it still feels comfortable and homely.

The guide who showed us around the house was friendly, engaging, and knew her stuff. We took the 2.30 tour, after a very polite welcome from the man at the till. The house has a lovely central courtyard. We had to leave before the tour finished, unfortunately, but I hope to come back next year.

The walled garden was a treat for anyone who likes cooking. I had fun identifying all the different berries, then came out by the ponds, which were lovely even under a grey sky. I could've spent ages there with my favourite novel, but didn't have time. I visited with my partner to see the gardens and get something to eat in the tea room. Everyone was warm and accommodating. I had cake and tea before leaving, both reasonably priced, and they take card payments. Some paths are uneven, so bear that in mind if you have limited mobility. I'd like to tour the historic house next time, as the people leading the tours clearly know a lot. This really is a hidden gem.

The tour was really enjoyable, and the house itself is a fantastic place to see. Our guide knew a lot about its history, including its links to Sir Isaac Newton, whose portrait hangs there, and Mary Reibey, who appears on the Australian $20. Check opening times before you go, but it's definitely worth a visit. 👍🏻

A lovely summer day, full of conversation, history, and beautiful gardens. We had tea and great company, then saw the cleverly laid out gardens and the beautifully restored house, which has been adapted for modern needs. The day included a tour of Ottery St Mary Church and Cadhay, and it was a memorable one.
