The White Horse

The roast was a real highlight, so full of flavour and well cooked. It was the best I’d had in a long time, and we can’t wait to return. We’d had a family mix-up and had nowhere booked for Sunday lunch, so we called the White Horse close to lunchtime. They managed to fit us into the bar, then seated us in a lovely, quiet room at the back. Several staff members were warm and attentive, and made us feel nothing was too much trouble. My autistic son has very specific food preferences. They were happy for him to bring his own food, gave him his own plate and made sure he was included and we were all comfortable. There’s also a really good play area in the garden, which kept the children happy. Well done, everyone 🙌🏻

The radiator heat woke me at 2am, so I’d suggest turning it down overnight. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We stayed for one night, enjoyed a really nice meal that evening, though the portion was more than generous, and had a great breakfast.

We waited 20 minutes after finishing and no one cleared our plates. The service was disappointing throughout: staff left drinks at the end of the table without saying what had arrived, and did the same with the food, telling us to pass the plates along. We’d reserved a table, but it hadn’t been set and was tucked away from the main restaurant. Staff spent 15 minutes chatting without checking on the tables, then spent the rest of our visit scrolling on their phones. The food was average at best, poorly presented and extremely overpriced for what we got. A poor experience. We won’t return for an average meal, an overcharge and disappointing service.

Cromer is easy to reach on a great cliff-top walk from this location. We had a lovely two-night stay, with a sea view from our great room, friendly and polite staff, and really good food, especially breakfast. Some other residents could have been more considerate on their way back to their rooms, with banging doors and loud voices. That had nothing to do with the White Horse.
