The location is perfect for central Oxford, right in the middle of things, and only a short walk from the Sheldonian Theatre for graduations. I really liked this quirky old fashioned hotel, with its wooden beams and beautifully tiled Victorian bathrooms. The spacious rooms were very comfortable and had everything we needed, including lovely wooden furniture, artistic lamps and complimentary hot chocolate that went down very well. The man at reception was friendly and helpful, and let us check in early. Tall people might not like it here, but if you're after a comfortable, slightly quirky place in a perfect location, it could suit you well.

The central location was good, but the room was nothing like the description or photos. There was a dirty sink in the corner that smelled of sewage, and the shared shower was broken. I tried to reach someone, but was completely ignored and treated as if I didn't matter as a paying customer. Terrible service. I wouldn't recommend it.

The location is good, but seriously, stay somewhere else. The room smelled terrible, and the sink being on the carpet was weird. There was mould on the windows and a strong mouldy smell. The ceilings and walls were cracked and flaking to the touch, and the floor literally slanted at 45 degrees. Being an old house doesn't excuse that, it's not livable. Trust me, don't stay here.

A really pleasant stay. The rooms are beautiful, and probably the best location for everything Oxford has to offer.

If you expect a standard hotel stay, this place will feel pretty shitty. We stayed three nights and didn't see anyone working there. Nobody changed the towels, emptied the bins, or restocked the water and tea. There was no breakfast, the bathroom fan didn't work, and after a quick shower the room stayed very damp. The shower was quirky, workers were loud just centimetres outside our room, and the walls were uneven and the floor squeaky. But we had a great time, the kids loved it, and if we return to Oxford, this is where we'd want to stay. It's a 400 year old house with lots of charm and a great location, and it was something different. It's also a social business that supports Student Hubs, an organisation aimed at supporting students. We had the Foundry and Bastion rooms, both en-suite, although Bastion only had a bath tub, not a shower. Be aware this is not a hotel, and you need to manage steps and stairs that aren't up to modern standards. Highly recommended if that works for you.
