Castleton Hotel - Just For Adults

The only good part of the stay was breakfast. We were told the room was a double for our three nights, but it was really a single room with a double bed. The shared toilet and shower were horrid, and the hotel was filthy, with dirty windows and carpets. Everything I touched felt sticky, and the place badly needs a deep clean. Nearby hotels were full when we tried to find another room, so we stayed and spent as little time there as possible. The owner was unpredictable and aggressive, and on our last evening I had to threaten to call the police. On the final morning, we got a note saying breakfast wouldn’t be served, along with a £30 refund and a suggestion of where to eat. The owner’s conduct was shocking and unprofessional. We couldn’t get out of the Castleton quickly enough, and I’d advise people to avoid it.

The room was VERY small, with hardly any space, though the bed was comfy. Gabriella greeted us nicely, but we didn’t see much of her during our stay. I didn’t like having to share a bathroom with other guests, and think that should be made clear in the room booking. Checking out felt a bit odd too: we went downstairs, put the keys in a box near the front door, and that was it. The stay was okay overall.

The room itself was clean and tidy, and the bed was comfy. It’s inexpensive accommodation, but the interior is dated and tired, with no ensuites, only two showers, one of which wasn’t nice, and four loos. It might have suited me if I were a contractor, but I’m not. I don’t like being negative, but I have to be honest: I won’t return.

My parents booked through booking.com expecting breakfast to be included, and the listing didn’t mention shared bathrooms. They refused to stay because the place was uninhabitable. The downstairs main room and bar were full of bin bags and old mattresses. This dump is falsely advertised on booking.com. Don’t waste your money, stay away. It’s not worth £1 a night.
