Our midweek room was spacious, with a huge comfortable bed, a bath and a walk-in shower. The hotel was very good, and the staff were generally friendly and professional. We ate there on arrival: my steak was very good, but the chicken added to my partner’s superfood salad had been cooked or microwaved until it was inedible. When someone asked how the meal was, we mentioned it, but the server seemed indifferent. It’s a shame that one person didn’t seem bothered by our comment about the food.

Jura made an ordinary meal feel amazing. He was warm, funny and easy to talk to, while still being professional, and seemed to know just how to make each table comfortable. He clearly takes pride in his work, and his service deserves recognition. I’d highly recommend asking for him if you get the chance. Even with a busy restaurant and several tables to look after, he stayed calm and organised. He remembered our orders, checked on us at the right moments without hovering, and kept the drinks topped up. He knew the menu well and gave recommendations that felt thoughtful and suited to us, answering our questions confidently. From his warm smile to his attention to detail, Jura made us feel valued throughout. He’s one of the best waiters I’ve ever had.

The roast, lasagne and fish tacos were all excellent, and there’s a great choice of beers. The Pentland was lovely. Friendly, welcoming service too. Very happy to recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.
