We had a wonderful time celebrating a 70th birthday at Mountain View. The spacious property had activities for different age groups, and it was close to Zip world and the other things we wanted to do on holiday. The team at Huge Holiday Homes were kind and quick to answer our questions. Sarah, the property's house keeper, deserves a special mention for telling me where to order groceries in advance, showing us the house details, and being so accommodating. She also sorted out the minor house issues that came with the age of the building. We'd book again!

There were 38 of us for a weekend here, and we'd happily recommend it and are likely to return. The place was clean and tidy when we arrived and well equipped. The younger half of the group had their own space in the large bunk room and attached dorm. The bedrooms were spacious and clean, most with en-suites, and there were enough bathrooms for everyone. We spent a lot of time in the basement games room, which had plenty to do.

The state of Mountain View Hotel made for a deeply disappointing stay. There was a strong damp smell as soon as we entered, and it stayed throughout our visit. It made the house uncomfortable and caused health problems for my family. Several floorboards were cracked, making it hazardous to walk around. Cleanliness was shockingly poor. The showers hadn't been properly cleaned, there was mould on the bedcovers, and slugs were coming out of the sink. The ovens and dishwasher didn't work at all, and the bathroom mirrors were rusted. Rubbish from previous guests had been left behind, so the place clearly hadn't been cleaned properly before we arrived. The showers were either scalding hot or freezing cold, with no comfortable middle setting, so they were practically unusable. Mountain View Hotel fell short of even basic standards for comfort and cleanliness. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant stay.

We all had a great time during a long weekend here for my 50th birthday in October 24. There were 30 of us, with plenty of rooms and bathrooms, so nobody felt cramped. The kitchen worked well for a group: it had two working dishwashers, three fridge freezers, plenty of mugs and glasses, and big pans that came in handy for curry and chilli. The kids enjoyed the games rooms, and the big lounge had lots of sofas. The property could use a bit of TLC and a lick of paint here and there, but with large groups coming and going, you expect some wear. Most of the bathrooms looked like they'd been done. Steve, the new maintenance guy, went above and beyond. He replaced a few blown bulbs, helped us sort out the heating and replied quickly to my texts. We could fit four cars on the drive, and there was lots of parking in the carpark, just a five-minute walk away. We've stayed in several large places for family groups, and this was one of the best for room count, space and amenities. I'm sure we'll be back.

We've stayed here a couple of times and found it an OK base. There's plenty of room for sports teams and other big groups, with enough rooms for large families to have their own bedrooms without needing to use the bunk bed rooms. The catering and facilities are adequate for a site this size. Cleaning is a constant bugbear. There are often wrappers under the beds and a good layer of dust. Security could be better, and many of the games in the games room are broken. Recycling is non-existent: the bins are always full from previous guests, and there could be more than one kitchen bin for a potential 60+ guests. The downstairs fire exit was blocked by an old washing machine and other items. The basement toilet has flushed with hot water for several years. That's wasteful and could also be a legionella risk.
